East County Junior Competitions 2026
Hertford Hockey Club’s Under 12s boys side have won the national club champions following a series of outstanding performances in the finals last weekend.
The team won the East competition last month – with a penalty shoot out win in the final against Cambridge City.
That win qualified them for the national finals which were held at Old Loughtonians Club. The 8 regional winners were split into two groups of four with the group winners then playing each other in the final.
Hertford were drawn against Haslemere (South Central), York (Yorkshire and North East) and Clifton Robinsons (West) and won all three games by comfortable margins – 5-2, 6-0 and 5-1 respectively.
Hertford faced London club Spencer in the final. Spencer had also won all three of their group matches.
And continuing their dominance, Hertford won the final 3-0.
For more details of the matches – including a video of a penalty corner routine that any team in any age range would be proud of - see www.hertford-hockey.co.uk.
Congratulations to the 10 members of the squad and to their coaches – and – indeed to the entire Club. This was the first time in the Club’s 39 year history that they have won a national title.
Elliot Barling, Vice Chair of Hertford Hockey Club, commented:
“I couldn’t be prouder of this incredible group of players and coaches. To be crowned National Champions is a phenomenal achievement and a testament to the hard work, commitment, and team spirit shown throughout the season.
“These young players have represented Hertford with immense pride, determination, and sportsmanship, while our coaches have been exceptional with their time, passion, and dedication that they have invested in the squads development.
“This is a hugely proud moment for the entire club and a brilliant reflection of the strength of our junior programme. Congratulations to everyone involved—you have truly done Hertford Hockey Club proud.”
