Information on Schools Competitions

SHARE

East already has a Schools sub-committee made up of representatives from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Herts, Norfolk, South Lincs and Suffolk.  We have lost Kent schools to the S.E. Area and some border schools to London which has allowed us to cut the number of competition days to two – a Pool round and a Finals day. This will reduce entry fee costs significantly.

The National Schools’ competitions are organised across the Under 18, 16, 14, 13 and 11 age groups.

England Hockey is responsible for organising the Under 18 (Tier 1, 2 & 3) and Under 16 (Tier 1 & 2) competitions. Entry details and further information can be found on the England Hockey Schools Championships page

All other Tiers start with a County round and an agreed number of teams progress to an East round and in some Tiers to a National round.  As the number of Areas has increased from 5 to 8 there is now only one team from each Area that progresses to the National round.

For 2021/22 season East Hockey is responsible for organising and running the following Schools Competitions:

Outdoor Hockey

  • Under 18 Tier 4
  • Under 16 Tier 3 - intermediate & emerging schools 11-a-side
  • Under 16 Tier 4 - emerging schools 7-a-side (No National round)
  • Under 14 Tier 1 - 11-a-side
  • Under 14 Tier 2 - 11-a-side
  • Under 14 Tier 3 - emerging schools 7-a-side (No National round)

The East Schools committee is wishing to increase its number of schools entering tournaments and would like to hear from schools, both state and independent, who currently do not play in our competitions with a view to finding an appropriate Tier for them to play in.
